After graduating with a BFA from Texas Tech in 1982, John began his personal challenge of creating art and working. He entered the field of social work, after obtaining his masters degree in order to make a sustainable income.

But in reality John grew up as a comics kid, with bottled Coca-Cola and monster movies, although his adult life has been housing projects, food banks, lockups and very small offices.

His art creations are finger paintings mainly, as he rarely uses a brush. The ink dyes he uses are applied with dropper caps. The colors he chooses are frequently raw, but always active in achieving a very dramatic, sometimes humorous, always interesting painting.

"In some ways, I see my art as a kind of Modernist extension. Channeling like the action painters-but enacted in comic strips, with dark undercurrents and a burlesque sense of humor"
John D Williams
